Halloween Weddings and Events

Halloween is a favorite holiday for a lot of folks, and I happen to be one of them! I've had the pleasure of working on many Halloween themed weddings and events over the years. Back in my school days, I always had a Halloween party every year. Costumes, great food, games, spooky decorations....

Halloween is really defined by one things in particular - candy!! You can create an amazing Halloween themed candy and dessert station for your event that both children and adults will absolutely love!

I always like to include pumpkins in the décor for fall weddings and events. They're readily available, easy to acquire, and they make some beautiful decorations!

Flower girls can carry pumpkins or trick-or-treat containers rather than the traditional flower girl baskets. So cute and classy!

Since Halloween is spooky, go with it! It doesn't have to be cheezy! You can decorate for a spooky themed wedding or event with themed décor and still keep it classy and elegant!

Work with your photographer to get some creative Halloween themed shots. Haunted houses, graveyards, a pumpkin patch, a hay ride, Freight Fest at Six Flags....any spooky location, Halloween themed event or fall themed event can make for perfect Halloween photos!

As a kid, Halloween was always my favorite! I loved dressing up! I remember being a mermaid, an Arabian princess, an angel, a witch, a zombie cheerleader, and Jack from the Jack-in-the-Box commercials! I loved getting candy and treats everywhere I went, and I loved having parties and inviting friends over to enjoy all the fun with me! Vendor Spotlight :: Dallas Caramel Company in Wylie

I've had the opportunity to work with Rain and Dallas Caramel Company twice now, and both times they were absolutely fabulous! These caramels are to die for! I can't get enough of the sea salt caramels....I had to get those the first time I came across them! My personal favorite!

This time they not only had caramels and boxed favors....they went above and beyond anything I imagined! Caramel apples! They were obviously delicious, but they were also just gorgeous on the dessert station! Absolutely love this idea to provide as a treat for your guests!

I had so much fun taking this couple to the candy store and shopping for everything in pink , white and black to create a candy station to match their wedding theme! Such sweethearts they were, and such a fun event! Happy anniversary Loretta + Jacob!

DIY :: Mini Candy Milk Cartons

This project is great for wedding or party favors for guests to take home any candy of your choice, or they could be used for candy, cookie or dessert stations for guests to load up and take home some treats!

FOR THIS PROJECT YOU WILL NEED:

• White A4 Paper or card
• Colour Inkjet or Laser Printer
• White Brads
• Guillotine or Scalpel
• Ruler
• Double-sided Tape (or glue)
• Small Round Hole punch (around 2.5 mm in diameter)
• Template (Download below

INSTRUCTIONS:

Print out the design template on your color printer. I've deliberately removed the cut/fold lines on the design template as it would show on your final carton so please use this milk carton template from Mirkwood Designs as a reference for where to fold and cut on your actual design template.

Using your ruler and scalpel, gently score along the fold lines, that are indicated by the dotted lines on your reference, on your printed template then crop your template out and cut along cutting lines that are indicated by solid lines on your reference. Please make sure you score first because once you've cut out your template you will no longer be able to see the guide lines around the edge that I've included as a visual aid for where the fold/cut lines should be.

Fold into carton. This should be fairly easy to work out. Use double-sided tape  (or glue) to stick the bottom flaps together and close your carton.

Fill up your carton with candy. Probably the most appropriate candy would be milk bottles! In the center of the top tab of your carton, use your punch to create a round hole then use a white brad to secure it shut.

Planning Tips :: Holiday Weddings

If you have your heart set on a holiday wedding, keep in mind there are a few things that make holiday weddings different than non-holiday weddings. Take all the details into consideration before deciding whether a holiday wedding date will work for you!

Holiday Décor
The holidays have beautiful color palettes and traditional décor that can be incorporated, making your design concepts a little easier to come up with. Utilize the ability to incorporate the holiday into your décor. That being said, don't over-do the holiday theme! You don't need to include every Christmas decoration available...select one holiday theme and execute it elegantly.

Unpredictable Guest Attendance
Being that it's a holiday, some of your guests may already have holiday plans in place and not be able to attend. In addition, the holidays are generally big spending times for people and this may affect your guest's ability to afford to attend. During the holiday seasons, hotels, gas and travel costs also go up. Keep in mind that a holiday wedding could make your guest count lower than a non-holiday wedding date for several different reasons.

Expenses
During some holiday seasons, some of the details for your wedding may go up in price. For example, roses are going to be more expensive around Valentine's Day than other times of year. Keep this in mind when selecting your vendors and items for a holiday wedding! You may instead choose something not in demand during that holiday time for a more reasonable price. On the contrary, some other things may be priced more reasonably because it's in season! Make sure to select things like flowers, food, beverages, and such that fit the season and are readily available so there's no markup on the cost.

Vendors Availability
Some vendors don't generally work holidays. That being said, if you find one who does they may have higher rates in place for the holidays. Keep your budget in mind when you're selecting a wedding date, and make sure you're able to select vendors who can work on your holiday wedding date.
