#TuesdayTips :: Make it Mobile

These days you have the freedom to get as creative as you want with your wedding day! I just love how just about everything is mobile these days! I personally did a wedding last year where the bride & groom had a surprise for their guests - - after dinner, an ice cream sandwich truck showed up! You should have seen everyone's faces! Make it mobile and give your guests an unexpected surprise!

"Maggie" the Mobile Bar from Saddles and Sapphires

Mobile Bars
How cool is it for someone to bring the bar to YOU? There are many different options when looking for a beverage service, so look into having a mobile bar at your wedding and all the attention that goes with it!

Mobile Desserts
As I mentioned above, last year we had a wedding where the bride & groom hired Penguin Perry's to show up at their reception and serve ice cream sandwiches after dinner. The guests were absolutely in love! An ice cream truck of any kind is a welcomed surprise and a sweet treat for your guests!

Stella Buttercup from The Camper Concierge

Mobile Photo Booth
Photo booths have been popular for quite some time now. The mobile photo booth is another way to give your guests something entertaining to do, incorporate your colors or theme with props and signs, and it gives a fun lasting memory for you and your guests to take home.

Mobile Food Trucks
Late night surprise snack? Outdoor reception dinner option? There are local food trucks available in just about every style of cuisine you could ever imagine, and you can book them to come serve delicious things at your event! Mexican? Cajun? Asian? Homestyle cookin'? There's a truck with just about any type of food you crave!

Mobile Flowers
Another attention grabber are the mobile floral trucks! They give off such a romantic vibe! They add romance and curiosity, not to mention the incredibly sweet scents wafting in the air!

Mobile Photo Props
Whether you want bridal portraits, family photos, or holiday special photos, renting a vehicle as a prop is a fabulous idea. You can rent just about anything from VW Busses (which so many people love!) to antique trucks and classic cars.

Valentine's Day Floral Deliveries

I've always delivered flowers for any occasion that I'm asked to, but last year I had the idea to offer some non-floral add-on's for our deliveries. I talked with a few caterers and bakers that I know and decided to add some of their treats to our Valentine floral orders!

Well, it went over so well last year that we decided to do it again this year! We delivered lots of smiles and giggles with our flowers, and we got so many compliments on the Strawberry Mousse Cupcakes and Ghirardelli Chocolate Covered Strawberries from Elmbrook Catering Co.! They always do such a fantastic job on the treats! These cupcakes are seriously beyond delicious!

If you need flowers in DFW for any occasion, whether it's a large wedding or a single birthday delivery....contact us for current floral specials!

#FloralFriday :: Evergreens + Poinsettias

During this magical season of the year, some flowers are just out of season and difficult to get your hands on. Stick with the beauty of the season and use things that shout out the holidays! I love using evergreens in everything, and not just winter but year round - they don't require constant water and they'll last without a doubt. Poinsettias are just beautiful in every way and come in other colors besides red, so you can incorporate them into your event with just about any color scheme!

#petalitforward :: Bringing smiles to those who need them....

I'll be 40 soon, and to be honest life isn't what I thought it would be when I was 40. The older I get, the more I learn about life. It's just not fair. Bad things happen to good people. The news is always negative and depressing. It's harder to make a living these days. It's hard to keep your head up when things go wrong. I remember being younger and not knowing what I know now....and it seems that smiles were a lot more prevalent back then.

My goal is to spread smiles. I want to bring more smiles to myself, those I know, and others out there who need a smile. With this world the way it is today, everyone out there could use an unconditional gift and a smile to brighten their day. I know that when I receive flowers from someone, they bring me smiles for days. It's one of my favorite things....a spot of simple beauty in the chaos around me. I've decided the world needs more smiles, and I'm going to do what I can to spread those smiles to others.

I can bring smiles by participating in the #petalitforward idea. Every time you order a fresh floral arrangement from Michell Events....whether it's for your home dinner party, business office, Valentine's, congrats, Mother's Day, birthday, or just because....we'll create and deliver another arrangement to someone in need of a smile.

#FloralFriday :: Feather Accents in your Florals

I'm a huge fan of feathers! So many colors, so many styles, so many sizes, and they all add an element of whimsy to any arrangement! I used them in my own wedding, and ever since then I've been in love with them! They make great accents for centerpieces, bouquets, alter arrangements and other table arrangements. Check out some of the ways we've used them in the past!

Want something a bit less expensive than feathers? Depending what you want them to look like, you can try tree fern! It can be spray painted any color, you can add glitter, and when it's added to arrangements it can give the look of feathers!

#TuesdayTips :: To DIY, or not to DIY?

DIY is a big thing to consider when planning a wedding. If you're able to pull it off with the skills and the girlfriends and the time, it can definitely be a money saver for you in the long run! Keep in mind that it takes planning and forethought so you don't run into last minute problems and no time to fix them on wedding day. Here are some of my suggestions as to what you should and shouldn't try to DIY for your own wedding:

Calligraphy, Invitations, Signs & Stationery
If you're an artistic person and have the time available, DIY'ing your Save the Dates and Invitations is always a great way to go! Other things like signs, table numbers, menu cards, etc... can be made in advance and put aside, so taking on DIY projects like these won't put you out and add stress at the last minute. Place cards and escort cards are the only thing that would have to be done semi-last-minute because guests are still rolling in with RSVPs until a week or so before the wedding.

Food, Cake & Other Edibles
My take on DIY'ing food for a wedding is always no. It's obviously not something that can be done far in advance, and it takes up a lot of time the day before and the day of the wedding. You and your family have enough to do already....feeding and bussing for 100+ people on top of all that is never an easy task to take on. Mom's cooking may be the best in the world, but don't do that to her on wedding day! Give a caterer Mom's recipes instead.

Artificial Bouquet by Michell Events

Fresh Flowers vs. Artificial Flowers
Flowers are something you can DIY if you have a plan! Artificial flowers can be done at any time and could be done well enough in advance that you don't have to worry about it in the days leading up to the wedding. Fresh flowers are a whole different ballgame and would have to be a last minute task! Get your girls together to help with assembling everything the day before or the morning of the wedding (I suggest day before in case there are any problems that need to be addressed). There are even folks out there who host workshops and classes to assist with learning and pulling off DIY wedding flowers. Last but not least, keep them cool and transport them safely to avoid last minute emergencies.

Music & Announcements
I never suggest that anyone DIY their music at their wedding. I know Ipods are great in every day life, but a big event like a wedding should have more attention. Maybe the groom's mom doesn't like to dance or be the center of attention.....your DJ can fade out her song early so she doesn't feel uncomfortable for too long. Your DJ makes special announcements about the wedding party, dinner, last call, and others....which are definitely needed throughout the evening with so many people going so many different directions.

Favors
Favors are definitely something that you can DIY at any time. If you're doing edibles, get together your group to help with creating and assembling so they can be done close to the wedding and stay fresh. If your favors are non-edible, you can take all the time you need making them and beautifully packaging them!

#FloralFriday :: Flowers Available in the Fall Season

My first tip for brides with a tight floral budget is to go with what's in season. It will be readily available and easy to access, and the cost will be lower than special orders for non-seasonal flowers.

There are a lot of beautiful options available in autumn in hues of warm reds, oranges, yellows and browns. Some of the available fall options are Asiatic Lilies, Asters, Billie Balls, Calla Lilies, Camellia, Carnations, Chrysanthemums, Dahlias, Delphinium, Gerbera daisies, Gladioli, Hydrangea, Marigolds, Pampas, Roses, Succulents, Sunflowers, Zinnias....

Our winner @seemommyknit was super excited to win the amazing basket, and she came by with her daughter to pick it up! We had to snap a group photo of everyone while she was there!
