Halloween Weddings and Events

Halloween is a favorite holiday for a lot of folks, and I happen to be one of them! I've had the pleasure of working on many Halloween themed weddings and events over the years. Back in my school days, I always had a Halloween party every year. Costumes, great food, games, spooky decorations....

Halloween is really defined by one things in particular - candy!! You can create an amazing Halloween themed candy and dessert station for your event that both children and adults will absolutely love!

I always like to include pumpkins in the décor for fall weddings and events. They're readily available, easy to acquire, and they make some beautiful decorations!

Flower girls can carry pumpkins or trick-or-treat containers rather than the traditional flower girl baskets. So cute and classy!

Since Halloween is spooky, go with it! It doesn't have to be cheezy! You can decorate for a spooky themed wedding or event with themed décor and still keep it classy and elegant!

Work with your photographer to get some creative Halloween themed shots. Haunted houses, graveyards, a pumpkin patch, a hay ride, Freight Fest at Six Flags....any spooky location, Halloween themed event or fall themed event can make for perfect Halloween photos!

As a kid, Halloween was always my favorite! I loved dressing up! I remember being a mermaid, an Arabian princess, an angel, a witch, a zombie cheerleader, and Jack from the Jack-in-the-Box commercials! I loved getting candy and treats everywhere I went, and I loved having parties and inviting friends over to enjoy all the fun with me! Needless to say, I have quite the collection of Halloween ideas pinned on my Pinterest boards!

#DIY :: Old Fashioned Soda Bar

Old fashioned sodas add a fun and playful element to an event and can even be used as part of your décor! There are so many to reasons to love them: they are in pretty glass bottles, lots of times with original vintage logos on the packaging, and they are made with pure sugar cane... delicious!

We love them all set up arranged according to color, or you can even just buy the color of flavors that go with your wedding. Refrigerate them up until right before and line them up on a table or bar for maximum effect, along with matching straws.

The hardest part of having old fashioned sodas is sourcing them. They can be difficult to come by. Gourmet delicatessens and stores can have good selections and we've even gotten lucky before at warehouse stores like Costco.

I've had the opportunity to work with Rain and Dallas Caramel Company twice now, and both times they were absolutely fabulous! These caramels are to die for! I can't get enough of the sea salt caramels....I had to get those the first time I came across them! My personal favorite!

This time they not only had caramels and boxed favors....they went above and beyond anything I imagined! Caramel apples! They were obviously delicious, but they were also just gorgeous on the dessert station! Absolutely love this idea to provide as a treat for your guests!

Planning Tips :: 5 Ways to Greet Your Guests in Style

Greet your guests with an unexpected surprise as they arrive at your ceremony or reception. A small special touch will go a long way! You want your guests to feel comfortable, welcomed, and appreciated, so add a special touch that they will remember!

Greet them with a cocktail or mocktail. If you're having an outdoor summer wedding, set up a cute table with mason jars of iced lemonade and straws. If you're having a more elegant indoor affair, greet them with a white gloved server and a silver tray of champagne flutes containing a special champagne cocktail created specifically for your wedding.

Provide interactive entertainment. Photo and video booths make for great entertainment and give your guests something to do during your cocktail hour. You can incorporate your guest book with the photo booth, so when guests arrive they can take a photo and put in the book as they sign. You can even provide props that go with the theme of your wedding! A caricature artist is always a great form of entertainment. Even those who don't want their own photo drawn enjoy watching the artist draw others. A strolling magician is another great idea to keep guests of all ages entertained.

Have games and icebreakers available. It usually happens that there are guests at the wedding who don't know everyone, so create a fun game of ice breaker questions about your and your groom-to-be that will get your guests talking. It will be an entertaining conversation starter! Games like cornhole and horseshoes are great for outdoor events. You can also provide a few casino games, whether it's renting a roulette table or simply putting dice on the cocktail tables.

Hire live musicians. Whether you have a harpist or a string trio for your ceremony, or a jazz trio for your cocktail hour, live musicians create a festive ambiance for your wedding. We've had tropical themed weddings with steel drummers, trumpet fanfare as guests arrive, and even bagpipers! Make it different than the normal unnoticeable background music and your guests will be sure to take notice.

Provide a "sugar rush" to get the party started. Candy stations and buffets are very popular with children and adults alike! The candy buffet can be designed in your wedding colors to add to the decor of the room, and providing take home bags for the guests will create an interactive favor station for everyone to participate in. Provide scoops and tongs, label each different candy with a sign , and get creative with the setup using jars, bowls and vases.....your guests will enjoy the pre-party boost!
